MIF regulation would benefit businesses and consumers across the EU
EuroCommerce calls on the European Commission to stand strong on MIF regulation and not to be pressurized by aggressive media campaigns by Matstercard. All European businesses and consumers need and deserve strong regulation against fees charged on payments using electronic cards.
Collective redress shows some balance for commerce and consumers
Whilst EuroCommerce has generally been reluctant to support collective redress, and generally don’t see the need for it, the Commission’s recommendations on collective redress mechanisms, are a reasonable basis for such a procedure if it were to be introduced. It respects the need for an opt-in model and a "loser pays" principle that safeguards legitimate collective redress action.

Visa concessions on card fees: a step in the right direction
Read moreThe commerce sector welcomes the commitments offered today by Visa Europe on its interchange fees and associated rules. Whilst this is an improvement, it is only a start. Interchange fee rates, in general, remain disproportionately high in many Member States and this is where the real economic damage is being done. Therefore the commerce sector looks to the Commission’s forthcoming regulation to take an even stronger line to fully resolve the issues at domestic level in all Member States.
