REAP - Retail Forum Meetings


MEETINGS OF THE RETAIL FORUM

 

New

  • Retail Forum Annual Event on 24 June 2010

Under the headline "Retail contribution to a sustainable EU 2020 strategy", and with the participation of Commissioner Janez Potocnik, this event is the opportunity to review the Retail Forum progress after its first year and to discuss with policy makers, retailers, suppliers and NGOs the contribution of retailers to the delivery of the EU 2020 strategy's results.

 

During the event, the Retail Forum Annual Report (available upon request from guedes@eurocommerce.be) and the Retail Environmental Sustainability Code were presented.

  • 5th meeting of the Retail Forum on 22 April 2010

This meeting was dedicated to the preparation of the issue paper on life-cycle assessment of daily-use products.

  • 4th meeting of the Retail Forum on 25 February 2010

Marion Sollbach introduced and welcomed Soledad Blanco in her new position as co-chair. Soledad Blanco expressed her enthusiasm for the Retail Forum and her determination to ensure continuity with the work of her predecessor. The co-chairs welcomed the participants and presented the agenda.
The keynote speaker, MEP Jo Leinen, made a short intervention stressing the key role of retailers vis-à-vis consumers.
After Mr. Leinen's intervention and a short Q&A session, Christel Davidson presented the outcome of the work on the issue paper on 'Marketing and effective communication'. A discussion amongst the participants followed and comments were taken into consideration for the finalisation of the issue paper.
The afternoon session was dedicated to the issue of timber. Representatives of DG Environment, FSC, IKEA, Kingfisher, ACE and CEPI gave presentations of good practices and answered the questions from the audience.

  • 3rd meeting of the Retail Forum on 22 October 2009

The third Retail Forum meeting took place on 22 October. The co-chairs welcomed the participants, presented the agenda and introduced the speakers.

The rest of the morning session was dedicated to the issue of optimisation of distribution systems. ERRT introduced the second draft of the issue paper on the optimisation of distribution systems. This was followed by a discussion with participants.

 

In the afternoon, the European Commission, Auchan, BEUC and Aalborg University gave presentations on various aspects relating to marketing and effective communication. These were followed by a discussion which will form a basis for the next issue paper.

  • 2nd meeting of the Retail Forum on 2 July 2009

The second Retail Forum meeting took place on 2 July. During the meeting the topic optimisation of distribution system was introduced. The companies Mercator and ASDA presented their strategy to make distribution systems more environmentally friendly and ECR presented its project on sustainable transport & distribution.

 

DG Environment then presented the outline work plan for the Retail Forum 2009-2011, based on the inputs received from stakeholders after the first meeting.

 

On the issue of energy efficiency in stores, DG TREN gave an overview of the recast of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the co-chair, Ms Sollbach presented the latest version of the issue paper on energy efficiency which was then presented to stakeholders for final comments.

 

The topic optimisation of distribution systems will be further discussed at the forum's next meeting on 22 October on the basis of an issue sheet currently being drafted. The topic marketing and effective communication will also be introduced during the third meeting.

  • 1st meeting of the Retail Forum on 30 April 2009

The first Retail Forum meeting took place on 30 April. During the meeting, which gathered more than 75 participants, stakeholders gave their views on the roadmap and timetable of the Forum for the next three years and how they intend to contribute to the promotion of sustainable consumption.

Carrefour and Leroy Merlin also presented their strategy to improve energy efficiency in their stores. This topic will be discussed at the forum's next meeting on 2 July on the basis of an issue sheet currently being drafted.

  • Launch event 3 March 2009

We are pleased to inform you that together with the Commission, we launched the Retailers' Environmental Action Plan (REAP) on March 3 in the presence of both Commissioners Dimas and Kuneva and EuroCommerce President Senator Quinn and Delhaize CEO Pierre-Olivier Beckers.
